Players of the Week, June 28-July 4: Juan Rodriguez and Ronald Bermudez
Two players in the lower levels of the system took home this week's award. Juan Rodriguez and Ronald Bermudez have been named Pitcher and Player of the Week by the SoxProspects community.
After struggling at Lowell in 2008 and 2009, Bermudez has put together a strong start to his season with the Greenville Drive. On the season, the 22-year-old outfielder has batted .292 with 8 home runs, for an OPS of .805. He ran away with the vote for Player of the Week after posting a slash line of .524/.607/1.048 to go along with 3 homers. He also managed 5 walks, 1 stolen base, and 2 outfield assists to top off an impressive week. Bermudez earned Player of the Week in the South Atlantic League as well for his performance.
Rodriguez has made 3 start this season for the GCL Red Sox and put up an ERA of 1.29 in his States-side debut. He edged out Michael Bowden in the voting this week after going 2-0 over 10.0 innings and giving up no runs. The 21-year-old held opposing batters to a .062 batting average against while striking out 7 and walking 2.
