Players of the Week, July 5-11; Chris McGuiness and Pedro Perez
While the Greenville Drive only managed a 3-3 record this week, two members of the Red Sox South Atlantic League affiliate were voted Pitcher and Player of the Week by the SoxProspects.com community, Chris McGuiness and Pedro Perez.
McGuiness managed 10 hits last week in just 21 at bats, good for a gaudy .476/.542/.857 line. He hit two home runs on the week, including a walk-off blast on Friday to lead the Drive to a 4-3 victory over Hagerstown (BAL). The 22-year-old first baseman has put together a very solid 2010 season to this point, with a slash line of .308/.412/.519, with 11 home runs and 37 RBI.
The Drive also had a pair of exceptional performances on the mound last week from Perez. The Dominican right-hander tossed 7.2 innings of shutout relief while allowing just 3 baserunners, good for a WHIP of 0.39. His week also included 3.1 innings of hitless relief against Kannapolis on July 5. Perez turned in a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 10-to-1 and a G/F ratio of 2.67. The 22-year-old's outstanding week lowered his ERA to 4.90, while his record stands at 6-3.
