Lavarnway and Padron promoted, Sox shuffle the deck


Headlining a busy day of transactions, Ryan Lavarnway and Jorge Padron were promoted from High-A Salem to AA Portland this afternoon. Lavarnway, 22, hit .289/.392/.487 with 14 home runs and 18 doubles in 304 at-bats over 82 first half games. Cuban import Padron, 23, posted a .270/.323/.377 line with 1 home run and 10 doubles in 31 games after joining Salem from Extended Spring Training. He was signed as an international free agent March 30.

Clay Buchholz and Jed Lowrie joined Pawtucket while Manny Delcarmen and Jeremy Hermida went to Portland, all on rehab assignments. In other moves today: Santo Luis was promoted to Pawtucket from Portland, Dusty Brown was activated from the disabled list by Pawtucket, Blake Maxwell was reassigned to Portland from Pawtucket, Miguel Celestino joined Lowell from the GCL, Dan Butler was promoted to Salem, Josue Peley and Jorge Jimenez were placed on the Temporary Inactive List, Stephen Fox was assigned to Greenville, and Tyler Lavigne was assigned to Lowell after the Sox acquired his contract from Normal of the Frontier League and signed him to a minor league deal.
