Pimentel selected to Futures Game


Stolmy Pimentel has been selected to the World Team for the 2010 Futures Game on July 11th during All Star weekend in Anaheim, CA. The Futures Game, now in its twelfth season, highlights some of the best talent across all levels of the minor leagues, pitting a team of U.S. born players against one comprised of ballplayers from the rest of the world.

Pimentel, a 20 year old right-hander, has been superb this season for Single-A Salem, posting a 5-5 record with a 3.63 ERA in 14 starts. Noted for his control, Pimentel has posted a 2:1 K:BB ratio this season, holding opposing batters to a .256 batting average against. He is currently ranked the seventh best prospect in the Red Sox system according to SoxProspects.com.

Pimentel is the latest Boston participant after Casey Kelly and Junichi Tazawa were selected last year, Che-Hsuan Lin won the Futures Game MVP in 2008, Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz got their first taste of the big stage in 2007, Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez represented their former team in 2005 and Kevin Youkilis participated in 2003.
