Boof Bonser designated for assignment
According to DJ Bean of WEEI.com, the Red Sox have cleared room on the roster for tonight's starter Felix Doubront by designating right-hander Boof Bonser for assignment. The 28-year-old Bonser made only two appearances for Boston, both out of the bullpen, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits in his 2.0 innings of work. He spent the majority of his time in Triple-A Pawtucket after being acquired in a December 10th trade with the Minnesota Twins, going 0-2 in nine games (eight starts) with a 6.34 ERA.
The decision to drop Bonser from the roster was made primarily because Boston likes having Dustin Richardson as a second left-hander in the bullpen.
