Ellsbury headed to DL, McDonald called up

The Red Sox have placed Jacoby Ellsbury on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 12, making him the second outfielder the team has put on the DL today. To fill Ellsbury's roster spot, the Red Sox have recalled Darnell McDonald from Triple-A Pawtucket.

McDonald collected Player of the Week honors in the opening week of the season. On the year, he is hitting .341/.372/.683 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI with the PawSox. He was the opening day right fielder for the Reds in 2009, and has hit .239/.276/.333 in 68 career major league games.
