Dobies traded to White Sox

The Red Sox have traded pitcher Andrew Dobies to the Chicago White Sox for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The left hander, who celebrated his 27th birthday today, had made three appearances with Double-A Portland this season. In 5.0 innings pitched, he gave up one run, while striking out eight batters and walking one. After missing the entire 2008 season with arm problems, Dobies returned to the mound last year and spent most of his time with Sea Dogs. He made 27 appearances out of Portland's bullpen in 2009, posting a 3.69 ERA in 39.0 innings pitched.

Originally drafted in the third round of the 2004 draft, Dobies had spent his entire professional career in the Red Sox organization.
