Jimenez returned to Red Sox by Marlins

The Florida Marlins have returned 25-year-old third-baseman Jorge Jimenez to the Red Sox. Jimenez was selected eighth overall in the December Rule 5 Draft by Houston and was then sent to Florida as the player to be named later in a trade for Matt Lindstrom.

Jimenez has had a tough spring so far, going only 3 for 18 after being considered a potential option for the Marlins at third base. He had an impressive year in 2009 at Double-A Portland, where he hit .289/.366/.424 with 13 home runs and 87 RBI. Jimenez will likely be assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket as he enters his fifth season in the Boston organization. He was originally selected in the 15th round of the 2006 Amateur Draft.
