Portland bullpen leads Sea Dogs to extra inning victory


8/5 Cup of Coffee: In Scranton, the PawSox fell to the S/WB Yankees 3-2. David Pauley earned a quality start, allowing only 2 runs over 7 innings, with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Miguel Tejera allowed the winning run 1.1 innings of relief. Jeff Bailey drove in both runs for Pawtucket, on a 1-for-3 night with a triple.

Portland triumphed over Reading 6-5 in 11 innings. Jorge Jimenez led the offense with 3 hits, and knocking in the game wining run in extra frames. Lars Anderson hit his 1st AA home run. The Portland bullpen combined for 7.1 innings of scoreless one hit relief.

Lancaster was off on Monday.

Greenville was crushed by Charleston by a score of 15-0. Brock Huntzinger was rocked in his Drive debut, allowing 7 ER, 8 R, 7 H, 4 HR, 1 BB, and striking out none over 3 IP. David Mailman's double was only one of only two hits for Greenville.

The Spinners earned the sweep of the LakeMonsters with a 3-2 victory. Hunter Strickland nabbed his 4th win in 5 innings of 1 run ball. Seth Garrison took home his 6th save, lowering his ERA to 1.17 in a scoreless ninth. Ronald Bermudez homered and batted in 2 runs in a two hit effort. Rafael Cabreja went 2/3 with a double and a walk.

The GCL Red Sox loss 4-1 to the GCL Reds. 2008 second round pick Derrik Gibson led the offense with 3 hits and an RBI. Starter Jeremy Kehrt took the loss, giving up 7 hits in 4 2/3 innings.

In DSL action, the Sox' game against the Rays was completed early due to rain, but not before the Red Sox could do some damage, earning an 8-4 win. Eddie Lora led the offensive attack with 4 hits in 4 ABs.

Players of the Night: the Portland bullpen - Daniel Bard, Dan Haigwood, Miguel Asencio, and Beau Vaughan, who combined pitched 7.1 innings of one-hit scoreless ball, striking out 5 and walking 1. Asencio took home the win and Vaughan earned his 16th save.
