Greenville's Lin leads World to win in Futures game
7/14 Cup of Coffee: On Sunday, Pawtucket defeated Norfolk 10-3. Charlie Zink (11-2) continued his dominance in AAA throwing 7 innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits and 2 BB. He had 5 Ks. Lincoln Holdzkom threw 1 inning giving up 1 run on 2 hits. Jon Switzer pitched the 9th and allowed 1 run on 1 hit. Jeff Bailey went 4 for 6 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. Joe Thurston went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Chris Carter and Gil Velazquez each went 2 for 5 with a run scored and a RBI.
New Britain edged Portland 5-4. Adam Mills (0-2) went 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 8 hits and 2 BB. He had 2 Ks. Miguel Asencio threw 3 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits. He had 2 Ks. Bubba Bell went 3 for 5. Jeff Corsaletti went 2 for 4 with a home run. Aaron Bates went 2 for 5 with a run scored. Mark Wagner went 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI.
Inland Empire hammered Lancaster 12-4. Tony Bajoczky (4-4) went 4 innings allowing 9 runs on 12 hits. He had 2 Ks. Derrick Loop threw 3 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits. He had 3 Ks. Josh Papelbon went 2 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits. He had 2 Ks. Daniel Nava went 2 for 5 and scored a run. Jon Still went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI. Josh Reddick went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Chih-Hsien Chiang went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Zak Farkes went 2 for 4.
Lakeville edged Greenville 4-3. Ryan Lawson threw 5 scoreless innings allowing 3 hits and 2 BB. He had 4 Ks. Mike Rozier (0-1) went 0.1 of an inning giving up 4 runs on 3 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Ryne Miller went 2.1 scoreless frames allowing 2 hits. He had 2 Ks. Felix Ventura retired the only hitter he faced. Oscar Tejeda went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Juan Apodaca went 2 for 3.
The Lowell / Auburn game was postponed.
In the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox blannked the Orioles 3-0 completing a game that had been suspended on July 8. The game was called in the 6th inning yesterday because of rain. Kyle Synder went 1 inning and did not allow a run on 1 hit. Ryan Pressly threw 4 scoreless, hitless innings. He allowed 3 BB and had 2 Ks. Roberto Ramos went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI.
Che-Hsuan Lin led the World team to victory over the U.S. in the Futures Game held at Yankee Stadium. He went 2 for 2 with a 2 run homer and was chosen the game MVP.
