Lancaster erupts for 15 hits in 10-3 win
5/4 Cup of Coffee: Action on Saturday saw Syracuse down Pawtucket 8-5. David Pauley started and took the loss. He went 4 innings giving up 7 runs on 8 hits and 2 BB. He had 1 K. Edgar Martinez threw 2 innings of perfect relief. He fanned 1. Jon Switzer went 2/3 of an inning and allowed 1 run on 2 hits and a BB. Bryan Corey went the final 1 1/3 frames and did not allow a run on 2 hits. He struck out 1. Jeff Bailey went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. George Kottaras went 2 for 4. Sandy Madera went 2 for 5 with a RBI. Jon Van Every went 2 for 4 and scored twice. Gil Velazquez went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI.
Trenton doubled Portland 6-3. Kris Johnson went 5 2/3 frames giving up 2 runs on 7 hits and 4 BB. He had 5 Ks. Miguel Asencio (1-1) went 2/3 of an inning allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and a BB. Chad Rhoades went the final 1 2/3 frames without allowing a run. He gave up 3 hits while fanning 4. Iggy Suarez went 2 for 5 and scored a run. Andrew Pinckney went 2 for 4.
Lancaster blasted Rancho Cucamonga 10-3. Chris Jones (2-2) threw 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. He had 7 Ks. Blake Maxwell went 2 innings and did not allow a run. He had 1 K. Josh Papelbon pitched the final inning and did not allow a run. He struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. Jason Place went 2 for 6 and scored a run. Jorge Jimenez went 2 for 6 and scored 2 runs. Lars Anderson went 2 for 5 with a RBI. Jon Still went 3 for 5 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Reid Engel went 2 for 5 with a run scored and a RBI. Aaron Reza went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI.
Greenville edged Columbus 3-2. Terumasa Matsuo threw 6 scoreless innings allowing 5 hits. He did not walk a batter while fanning 2. Chad Povich (3-0) blew the save but earned the win. He went 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. He fanned 4. Mike Jones went 2 for 4 with a run scored. He is now hitting .415. David Mailman went 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 RBI.
