Socolovich throws 5 scoreless innings to lead Spinners
8/21 Cup of Coffee: Last night, Syracuse defeated Pawtucket 8-6. Mike Burns (4-8) started and went 3 1/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 9 hits and a BB. He had 4 Ks. Abe Alvarez threw 3 1/3 scoreless, hitless innings. He did not allow a BB and had 2 Ks. Lincoln Holdzkom went 1 1/3 innings giving up 1 run on 2 BB. He had 1 K. Javier Lopez went 1/3 of an inning. He did not allow a run on 1 hit and a BB. Edgar Martinez went 2/3 of an inning striking out the 2 batters he faced. Jacoby Ellsbury went 2 for 4 with a run and a RBI. George Kottaras went 3 for 5 with 2 homers and 3 RBI. Ed Rogers went 2 for 4 with a RBI.
Binghampton downed Portland 6-2. Tommy Hottovy (3-9) went 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. Barry Hertzler threw 2 innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Hunter Jones pitched a clean inning fanning the 3 batters he faced. Mike James pitched the 9th allowing a BB. He had 1 K. Sal Paniagua went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI. Zach Borowiak went 2 for 4 with a RBI.
Lowell split a doubleheader with Tri City. They took the first game 8-2 behind the pitching of Miguel Socolovich (3-3) who threw 5 scoreless innings. He allowed 1 hit and 4 BB. He had 3 Ks. Carlos Gonzalez pitched the final 2 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits. He had 3 Ks. Jorge Jimenez went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI. Deshaun Brooks went 2 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBI. The Spinners lost the second contest 3-1. Ryne Lawson (4-3) went 4 2/3 inings allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 4 BB. He had 2 Ks. Scott Lonergan pitched the final 1 1/3 frames allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. He had 2 Ks. Yamaico Navarro went 2 for 2. Oscar Tejeda went 3 for 3 with a run scored.
In the Gulf Coast League, the Pirates blasted the Red Sox 8-1. Mike Rozier (0-1) on a rehab start gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in 1 inning of work. Brock Huntzinger threw 2 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit. He fanned 2. Hunter Strickland threw 3 innings and gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and a BB. Argenis Paulino pitched the final 2 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Jared Stanley went 1 for 3.
The Dominican League Red Sox edged the Devil Rays 8-7. Although he did not get the win, Stolmy Pimentel had a strong start going 6 scoreless innings. He allowed 2 hits and 2 BB while striking out 5. Ronald Bermudez went 3 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI. Pedro Chourio went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.
Player of the Night: Miguel Socolovich who threw 5 scoreless innings leading the Spinners to victory. He allowed just 1 hit. Honorable mention goes to George Kottaras.
