Mike Burns tosses complete game in PawSox win
8/10 Cup of Coffee: Friday night saw Pawtucket blast Syracuse 11-3. Mike Burns (4-7) pitched a complete game victory allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and a BB. He had 6 Ks. Jacoby Ellsbury went 2 for 5 and scored 2 runs. Joe McEwing went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Jed Lowrie went 3 for 5 with a run scored and a RBI. He is now hitting .324. Newcomer Bobby Kielty went 2 for 5 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Harrisburg defeated Portland 8-3. Justin Masterson (4-1) started and went 5 innings. He gave up 8 runs on 8 hits and 2 BB. He had 3 Ks. Hunter Jones threw 3 scoreless innings. He gave up 2 hits but did not walk a batter. He had 3 Ks. Barry Hertzler threw a scoreless final frame giving up a lone hit. Corey Keylor went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI.
High Desert got off to a 7-0 lead and then held on to defeat Lancaster 12-9. Mike Rozier (4-9) lasted just 1/3 of an inning allowing 5 runs on 2 hits and 3 BB. Kyle Fernandes went 2 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 3 hits and 4 BB. He had 1 K. Ismael Casillas went 4 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. He had 4 Ks. Blake Maxwell pitched a scoreless final frame. Brad Correll continued to be hot going 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. He is now hitting .355.
Delmarva blasted Greenville 12-2. Jimmy James (2-2) started and took the loss. He went 4 innings and gave up 5 runs on 9 hits and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Chris Province went 1 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 2 hits and 2 BB. Jorge Rodriguez threw 2 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Chad Povich went 1 1/3 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit. He had 1 K. Argenis Diaz went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI. Chih-Hsien Chiang went 3 for 4 and scored a run.
Hudson edged Lowell 6-5. Felix Doubront went 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and a BB. He had 3 Ks. Tony Bajoczky threw 4 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. He had 1 K. Carlos Fernandez-Oliva went 3 for 5 with a run scored and a RBI. Will Vasquez went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.
In the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox defeated the Pirates 6-5. Pedro Perez (3-4) went 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits to earn the win. He had 3 Ks. Mauricio Mendez threw 2 scoreless, hitless frames. He gave up 3 BB and had 2 Ks. Alberto Gil went 1 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 1 hit and 1 BB. He had 2 Ks. Carlos Gonzalez closed out the final 2/3 of an inning allowing 1 hit. Che-Hsuan Lin went 2 for 5 and scored 2 runs. Mitch Denning went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI.
In the Dominican Summer League, the Red Sox/Yankee game was postponed.
