Kielty signs minor league deal

On Monday Boston signed outfielder Bobby Kielty to a minor league deal and he is expected to report to Pawtucket on Wednesday. Kielty was designated for assignment by Oakland on July 23 and released on July 31 after hitting .200 in 13 games for the A's and .394 in 9 games for AAA Sacramento. He also spent some time on the DL with a torn meniscus in his left knee. Kielty, a switch hitter, is a career .255 hitter who traditionally hits lefties at a good clip. Look for Kielty to spend a few weeks with Pawtucket and then make some solid contributions for the Red Sox during the stretch run in September.
