Sea Dogs split doubleheader allowing 1 run over 2 games
6/3 Cup of Coffee: On Saturday, Pawtucket fell 4-3 to Norfolk in 11 innings. David Pauley started and went 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 BB. He had 4 Ks. Mike Burns threw a scoreless inning giving up a BB. He had 1 K. Edgar Martinez (2-2) went 2 1/3 innings and took the loss. He gave up 1 run on 1 hit and a BB. Craig Breslow went 1/3 of an inning giving up 1 hit and 1 BB. Joe McEwing went 2 for 5 and scored a run. Kevin Cash went 3 for 6 and had a RBI. Bobby Scales went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Chad Spann went 3 for 5 with a RBI.
Portland split a doubleheader with Connecticut. They lost the first game 1-0. Clay Buchholz pitched the complete 7 inning game. He allowed the 1 run on 3 hits and 3 BB. He had 11 Ks. Jed Lowrie went 1 for 2. Jeff Corsaletti went 1 for 4. Eric Crozier went 1 for 2. The Seadogs rebounded to take the second game 7-0. Chris Smith started and went 5 innings. He allowed just 1 hit and a BB while fanning 3. Barry Hertzler threw the final 2 innings allowing 2 hits and a BB. He fanned 2. Jeff Corsaletti went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Jed Lowrie went 2 for 4 and scored twice. Andrew Pinckney went 2 for 4 and had 4 RBI. Jay Johnson went 1 for 2 with a run scored and 2 RBI.
Visaila defeated Lancaster 9-4. Justin Masterson (2-5) started and lasted 5 innings. He allowed 6 runs on 9 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Jose Vaquedano threw 1 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 BB. He had 3 Ks. Jason Blackey threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings. He gave up 1 hit and a BB. Zach Daeges went 4 for 5 with a RBI. Scott White went 2 for 5 with a run scored. Ryan Khoury went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. Mickey Hall went 2 for 4 and is now hitting .346.
Greenville lost to Kannapolis 5-2. Travis Beazley (4-5) went 7 innings. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 BB. He had 7 Ks. Jorge Rodriquez threw the final 2 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits. He had 2 Ks. Josh Reddick went 1 for 4 with a RBI. Carlos Fernandez went 1 for 4 and scored a run. Jon Still went 1 for 2 and scored a run.
Player of the Night: Chris Smith who went 5 one hit shutout innings to lead Portland to a split in their doubleheader with Connecticut.
