Red Sox select Brock Huntzinger with 3rd round pick

The Boston Red Sox have selected RHP Brock Huntzinger in the 4th round of the 2007 amateur player draft. Huntzinger dominated high school competition while at Pendleton Heights High School in Pendleton, Indiana, going 7-0 with a 0.16 ERA with 88 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched. At 6'3" 215 he possesses good size for a pitcher but can add more muscle to his frame. His fastball sits at 89 mph topping at 92 mph while also throwing a curve ball and a slider. He has good control and a smooth delivery and keeps his velocity deep into games. He is scheduled to attend Indiana University in the fall, but should he sign with Boston he will begin 2007 in the GCL unless the Red Sox shut him down for the year.
