Bell hits 21st homer and drives in 5 in Jethawk win


6/28 Cup of Coffee: Action on Wednesday saw Pawtucket fall to Norfolk 6-3. Abe Alvarez (4-7) started and took the loss. He went 6 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and 3 BB. He had 1 K. Craig Hansen went 2 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits. He had 2 Ks. Bryan Corey pitched a perfect ninth inning with 1 K. Jeff Bailey went 2 for 3 and scored a run. Michael Tucker went 1 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI.

Portland took both games of their doubleheader against Connecticut. They won the first contest 4-2 despite having only 1 hit. They were aided by the opposition committing 3 errors and giving up 3 BB. Tommy Hottovy started and went 5 2/3 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 4 BB. He recorded 2 Ks. Lincoln Holdzkom (4-1) blew the save but picked up the win. He went 1 1/3 innings and was not charged with a run. He gave up 2 hits and a BB. Jay Johnson went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 RBI. The Sea Dogs took the second game 7-2. Chris Smith (3-4) earned the win going 5 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits and 3 BB. He had 3 Ks. Kyle Jackson threw the final 2 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit and a BB. He had 3 Ks. Andrew Pinckney went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. Bryan Pritz went 2 for 3 with a RBI. Iggy Suarez went 2 for 2 with a run scored and a RBI.

Lancaster pounded out 20 hits enroute to a 18-15 win over Bakersfield. Mike Rozier started and went 2 2/3 innings giving up 11 runs on 9 hits and 4 BB. He had 4 Ks. Jason Blackey (1-0) got the win going 2 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Jose Vaquedano went 1 2/3 scoreless innings giving up 2 hits while fanning 1. Ismael Casillas threw 2 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits. He had 3 Ks. Bubba Bell went 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 5 RBI. Christian Lara went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Luis Soto went 2 for 5 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Scott White went 2 for 6 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Greenville blasted out 19 hits on route to a 19-8 win over Lexington. Chris Jones went 3 innings giving up 8 runs, 4 of which were earned on 8 hits. Jorge Rodriguez threw 3 scoreless innings on 1 hit and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Cody McAllister also threw 3 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit and 2 BB. He had 2 Ks. Reid Engel went 4 for 6 with 2 runs scored. Lars Anderson went 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and a RBI. Jon Still went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Josh Reddick went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 4 RBI. Mike Chambers went 3 for 6 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. Kris Negron went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI.

The Lowell game against Tri-City was postponed.

The Gulf Coast Red Sox defeated the Twins 7-5. Jose Alvarez went 2 innings. He did not allow a run on 2 hits. He had 2 Ks. Tony Bajoczky threw 4 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and a BB.
