Red Sox earn playoff berth

The Boston Red Sox clinched a spot in the playoffs on Sunday, winning the wild card for the third consecutive season. The team earned the berth when the Cleveland Indians fell to the Chicago White Sox in the final game of the season. Boston led New York 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning when the team learned of Cleveland's loss. Boston will open the best-of-five series Tuesday at 4:00 pm in Chicago against the AL-Central champion White Sox. Matt Clement will get the start and will face Jose Contreras, who has pitched impressively as of late. Look for Red Sox prospects Jonathan Papelbon and Alex Machado to make the post-season roster in the opening round, along with a number of other players who played in the minors in 2005, including Kevin Youkilis, Adam Hyzdu, and Lenny DiNardo.
