The low-A affiliate of the
Boston Red Sox will be known as the
Greenville Drive when they resume play in April 2006. Formerly known as the
Bombers, the Greenville team move from Columbia prior to the 2005 season, keeping the previous nickname for the season. Team President
Craig Brown attributed the new name to the city’s “incredibly entrepreneurial, forward-looking spirit.” A new logo was also unveiled, and the team is presently working on new merchandise and a new website, which is located at
http://www.greenvilledrive.com/. The team is also slated to begin the 2006 season in a brand new state-of-the-art stadium, which is currently under construction.
