Hansen promoted to Portland

On Thursday, first-round pick Craig Hansen was promoted to AA Portland. Hansen, 21, was selected as the 26th player overall in the June 2005 draft, and was rated by Baseball America as the player "closest to the major leagues." He signed on July 25th and was immediately added to the 40-man roster. In two appearances with the GCL Red Sox, Hansen worked three scoreless innings. The 6-foot-5 pitcher from St. John's earned Big East Pitcher of the Year honors in 2005 after saving 14 games. To make room for Hansen, Brantley Jordan was returned to Greenville. The Portland Sea Dogs host the Norwich Navigators tonight at 7:00 PM, and Hansen is expected to see action out of the bullpen.
