8/24 Cup of Coffee


Let's start off a review of last night's action with Pawtucket and their 5-4 victory over Ottawa. Abe Alvarez got the start and gave up 3 runs and 4 hits over 6 2/3 innings. Cla Meredith blew the save going only 1/3 inning. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits. Matt Perisho threw 2 hitless innings to earn the win. George Lombard went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Tony Schrager was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Dustin Pedroia ,1 for 3, got the game winning hit in the ninth. Trenton bombed Portland 11-6. Anibal Sanchez lasted only 3 1/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 8 hits, 4 of the runs were earned. Craig Hansen threw 1 1/3 innings giving up 0 runs on 2 hits. He did allow an inherited runner to score. Denny Tomori gave up 3 runs on 5 hits in 2 innings of work. Hanley Ramirez went 3 for 5 with a run scored. Scott Youngbauer went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI. Myrtle Beach beat Wilmington 7-6. Scott Shoemaker gave up 5 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings. T.J. Rios took the loss giving up 2 runs on 2 hits over 1 2/3 innings. Scott White was 3 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI. Columbus got by Greenville 5-3. Roger Lincoln took the loss giving up 5 runs and 12 hits over 7 innings. Claudio Arias was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI. In the NY/Penn League All Star Game, the A.L. team lost 5-4 to the N.L. squad. Ryan Phillips threw for 2 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit. Jed Lowrie was 0 fr 1 with a walk and a run scored. Luis Soto was 0 for 2. In the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox edged the Reds 7-6. Kyle Fernandes gave up 4 runs on 7 hits over 3 innings. Dane Towery got the win going 3 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits. Tony Granadillo was 3 for 4 with a RBI. Manny Arambarris was also 3 for 4 with a run scored. Emilio Linares went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI.
