Navarro's hot hitting sparks Lancaster to win
On Thursday, Pawtucket fell to Scranton Wilkes-Barre 6-1. Devern Hansack pitched 7 innings giving 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 8 and walking 2 to fall to 5-10 on the season. Dusty Brown went 1 for 2 with a double, RBI, and 2 walks while Jeff Bailey and Chris Carter each had 1 hit each.
Portland completed a suspended game from July 23rd as they fell to Connecticut 7-2. Dustin Richardson got the initial start back in July and went 4 innings giving up 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2. Daniel Haigwood pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2 to pick up the loss. Jorge Jimenez went 2 for 4 while Bryan Pritz went 1 for 2 with 2 walks in the loss. The regular second game was suspended and will be completed today as part of a doubleheader.
Lancaster defeated Bakersfield 5-2. Derrick Loop pitched 5 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 7 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2. Kyle Fernandes pitched 4 shutout innings giving up 2 hits while striking out 8. Yamaico Navarro went 3 for 5 with a RBI and Daniel Nava also went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI. Jason Place and Jon Still each had 2 hits and 1 RBI apiece in the win.
Greenville fell to Kannapolis 4-2. Jose Capellan pitched 5 innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1. Zach Penprase went 4 for 4 with a double while David Mailman went 3 for 5 with a home run, double and 1 RBI. Jered Stanley went 2 for 5 with 2 doubles and 1 RBI while Michael Almanzar went 2 for 5 in the loss.
Lowell was shutout by Brooklyn 2-0. Chad Rhoades pitched 2 innings in a rehab appearance giving up no runs on 2 hits while striking out 4. Bryan Price pitched 4 innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 6 and walking 1. Seth Garrison pitched a scoreless inning striking out 2. Tim Federowicz had the Spinners only hit of the night.
In the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox lost to the Orioles 10-6. Cesar Cabral pitched 4 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1 to take the loss. Bryan Peterson went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored Joantoni Garcia went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Casey Kelly went 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.
And in the Dominican Summer League, the Red Sox beat the Mets 6-5. Roman Mendez pitched 4 innings giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1. Ernesto Reyes pitched the final 2 1/3 innings giving up no runs or hits while striking out 2 and walking 1. Leonel Escobar went 3 for 4 with a RBI and a walk while Juan Bonifacio went 2 for 3 with a triple, 2 walks, and 2 runs scored.
