Cup of Coffee: Granberg goes off for Portland

7/9 Cup of Coffee: The star of the night was Devlin Granberg (pictured), who had three extra-base hits for Portland in their win. Rain was an issue throughout the system, as Worcester and Salem were postponed. Brian Van Belle pitched a great game for Greenville, who need just one run to win.

Devlin Granberg fell just a single shy of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with three RBI and three runs scored. He has his OPS with Portland up to .904 in 14 games. Joey Meneses also had a big game, roping a pair of doubles to give him 21 two-baggers on the year, which is tied for third in the league. Ryan Fitzgerald added two hits including a double as well.  Andrew Politi pitched well, giving up two runs on three hits in five innings, punching out six without a walk. Rio Gomez, Enmanuel De Jesus, Seth Blair, and Alex Scherff each threw an inning, with Blair the only to give up a run. He and Gomez each struck out a pair.

Pitching dominated this one on both sides, but the Greenville staff was just a little bit better. Brian Van Belle started and went the first five, surrendering just four hits, no runs, and one walk while striking out seven. Oddanier Mosqueda followed that up by retiring all six batters he faced with four strikeouts. Cody Scroggins and Zach Bryant each tossed a scoreless frame with a strikeout. Wil Dalton provided the lone run with a solo shot in the third inning. Cameron Cannon also went 2 for 4 with a double.
