Cup of Coffee: Devers homers, bullpens thrive

6/3 Cup of Coffee: Despite some underwhelming starting pitching performances, the bullpens pitched well for each affiliate. Rafael Devers (pictured) had a big game with three hits, including a home run.

Henry Owens didn't have it yesterday, as he was pulled after just 2/3 of an inning and six earned runs. Austin Maddox, Kyle Martin, and Jamie Callahan were lights out the rest of the way, but the deficit was already too steep. Mike Miller paced the offense by going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles. Blake Swihart was 1 for 3 with a walk.

Rafael Devers had a huge game at the plate, going 3 for 4 with his ninth home run, two RBI, and two runs. Danny Mars smacked his 10th double of the year and took a walk out of the leadoff spot. Teddy Stankiewicz was roughed up for 11 hits and six runs in just five innings of work.

Josh Ockimey got things going early for Salem with an RBI double. He finished his day 2 for 5 with two knocked in. Chad De La Guerra went 3 for 5 with two doubles as well. Daniel Gonzalez turned in a quality start by allowing three earned runs in six innings. Jordan Weems and Gerson Bautista finished it off, with Bautista striking out the side in the ninth to earn the save.

Greenville broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 8th with a pair of runs. Tyler Hill singled in one of those 8th-inning runs as part of his 3 for 4 day at the plate. Jhonathan Diaz made the start and lasted four innings, allowing one run with two walks and two strikeouts. Matthew Gorst threw three innings of one-run ball before Stephen Nogosek picked up the win in relief by tossing a pair of scoreless frames.

Player of the Night: Rafael Devers appears to be out of his slump, as his three hits pushed his average back over .300. Devers' homer came off a right-hander, as he is now slugging an impressive .571 against righties this season.
