Cup of Coffee: Tzu-Wei Lin, GCL Red Sox roll on All-Star Tuesday

7/11 Cup of Coffee: Tuesday was a light night of action for the affiliates as only Greenville, the GCL Red Sox and the DSL Red Sox were in action. Greenville fell as the were not able to muster much offense while Tzu-Wei Lin, Keaton Briscoe and the GCL Red Sox offense clicked on all cylinders against the Twins. In DSL action, Roberto Duncan's four hit evening helped the Red Sox squash the Marlins.

Chris Carpenter continued his rehab tossing 1.0 inning, allowing a run and striking out two as he made the start for Greenville. Unfortunately, the Drive were just 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position as they dropped a 4-1 rain shortened contest to the Augusta Greenjackets (SF). Dreily Guerrero's RBI single in the fifth was the lone offensive bright spot for Greenville. Garin Cecchini roped his 23rd double of the season, good enough for fourth in the South Atlantic League.

A 14 hit attack fueled by leadoff man Tzu-Wei Lin's 2 for 5 evening allowed the GCL Red Sox to pound the GCL Twins (MIN), 11-5. Every member of the Red Sox lineup reached base at least once, with second baseman Keaton Briscoe leading the way with a 2 for 4 evening with a double and four RBI. Center fielder Jeremias Pineda went 3 for 5 with a double to increase his batting average to .396. The 21-year-old switch hitter has been fantastic with runners on base, hitting .533 so far this season. Matt Spaulding, a 29th round selection of the Red Sox in last year's amateur draft, finally made his professional debut by tossing 1.0 inning, allowing a run on one hit. Oscar Melendez picked up the victory for his 3.0 shutout innings of relief.
-----
Roberto Duncan and Edwar Garcia's 5.0 solid innings allowed the DSL Red Sox to cruise past the DSL Marlins (FLA), 10-1. Garcia picked up his first victory of the season as he allowed just an unearned run while striking out three. The Red Sox compiled 13 hits in the game, led by Duncan who was a home run short of the cycle while scoring three runs and knocking in one. The Red Sox currently sit at 21-12, tied with the DSL Rangers (TEX) for first place in the BC North division.
