Red Sox to sign second-round pick Jamie Callahan

In a change from previous years, players are signing quickly after getting drafted. The first Red Sox draft pick to sign was right-handed pitcher Jamie Callahan. Callahan, who was drafted in the second-round, will be in Boston tomorrow for a physical and will be ready to play for the GCL Red Sox next week. The news of his signing was first reported by Lou Bezjak of scnow.com

Callahan, who was committed to pitch for the two-time defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks, was recently named the Gatorade South Carolina Baseball Player of the Year. The amount for which he signed was not available, but the slot value for the pick is $565,600.
