2012 MLB Amateur Draft picks 1-16


The 2012 MLB Amateur Draft is underway on Day 1 and the first 16 picks have been made in the first round. The Houston Astros selected shortstop Carlos Correa, who becomes the highest drafted player out of the Puerto Rican Baseball Academy in draft history. He also becomes the first shortstop drafted first overall since the Tampa Bay Rays took Tim Beckham first overall back in the 2008 draft. The New York Mets selected Gavin Cecchini with the 12th overall pick, the brother of Red Sox minor leaguer Garin Cecchini.
