Cup of Coffee: Pena, Cervenka and Lockwood combine to no-hit Rome


5/9 Cup of Coffee: On a day that was light on action, Greenville made history as three hurlers combined to toss the club's first ever no-hitter.

Pawtucket's offense was limited to just four hits as they were clipped 3-1 by the Rochester Red Wings (MIN). Ross Ohlendorf dropped to 3-3 on the year as he tossed 5.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 2. Tony Pena followed Ohlendorf with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit. Justin Thomas and Chorye Spoone each added a scoreless inning of relief work out of the PawSox bullpen. Down 3-0 in the sixth, Pawtucket brought home its lone run of the contest on a Josh Kroeger RBI single. The loss snaps the PawSox four game winning streak.  

Portland's contest against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (TOR) was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on July 13. 

Salem's offense jumped out to a six run lead before rain suspended their contest against the Potomac Nationals (WAS). Miguel Celestino tossed 4.0 shutout innings for the Red Sox, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 2. Salem started the game with a bang as Jackie Bradley Jr. led off the game with a home run and Sean Coyle followed with an inside the park home run. The offensive barrage continued as Salem plated two on a costly throwing error and two more on a Adalberto Ibarra RBI single. The game will resume this morning at 11AM with the Red Sox batting in the top of the fifth. 

The story of the evening came in Greenville, as Miguel Pena, Hunter Cervenka and Tyler Lockwood combined to toss the club's first ever no-hitter against the Rome Braves (ATL). SoxProspects News Writer James Dunne recapped the action for the first affiliate no-hitter since August 2006.

Cervenka added 2.0 innings of relief, walking a batter and striking out 5. Lockwood closed out the game in the ninth, punching out 2.
