Carlos Silva released
The Red Sox announced that they have released pitcher Carlos Silva.
Silva, 32, signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training in January. The veteran righty was one of many experienced pitchers who Boston brought in to compete for a spot in the starting rotation. However, the right shoulder inflammation that troubled Silva last season recurred when he arrived to camp, preventing him from taking the mound.
The move leaves Boston with 55 players in major league camp.
