Red Sox grab catcher Gerardo Olivares in Triple-A phase of Rule 5 draft
In the Triple-A phase of the 2011 Rule 5 Draft, the Red Sox selected Tampa Bay Rays catcher Gerardo Olivares.
Olivares, 23, has been a member of the Tampa Bay organization since 2007. Last season with the Short Season A-Hudson Valley Renegades, Olivares hit .298/.355/.488 with 2 home runs and 18 RBI in 24 games. In his five minor league seasons, Olivares has caught 42% of attempted base stealers.
