Scottsdale loses game to Surprise, and Middlebrooks to injury
11/1 Cup of Coffee: Scottsdale got out to an early lead, but ultimately lost to Surprise, 8-5.
The Scorpions had a 2-0 lead after RBI singles by Brandon Crawford (SF) and Bryce Harper (WAS) in the bottom of the 1st. Surprise, who is pacing the AFL with a 17-6 record, answered back with 3 runs in the 4th and 6th innings to put them up for good. Offensively, Scottsdale was led by Crawford and Harper, who each went 2-4 with 2 RBI. Chris Scholl (LAA) took the mound for the Scorpions, and pitched the first 4 innings. He allowed 4 hits and 3 runs, while walking 2 and striking out 2. Austin Fleet (SF) took the loss in relief, as he allowed 4 hits and 3 runs in 1 inning of work. He did not walk a batter and struck out 2.
For the Red Sox, Will Middlebrooks went 0-2 with a walk, and left the game in the 8th inning with a hand injury. There is no word yet on the severity of his injury. Jeremy Kehrt pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Scorpions, allowing 2 hits, walking 1 and striking out 1.
Scottsdale will look to get back in the win column tonight, as they host Peoria at 9:35 EST.
