GCL Sox eliminated from post-season contention
8/20 Cup-of-Coffee: Our apologies that today's cup is a day late and a dollar short. One of our writers moved across the country this week and we had a mis-communication regarding today's cup-of-coffee responsibilities. Here's a 30-second breakdown:
The PawSox Lose to Columbus, 7-1. Will Middlebrooks went 0-for-4 in his Triple-A debut, while Greg Smith was stellar in his first start with Pawtucket, allowing only 1 run in 7 innings. Portland was defeated by Binghamton, 10-1. Jeremy Hazelbaker went 2-for-4 in an otherwise subpar offensive showing for the Sea Dogs. Salem's double-header was rained out. Greenville downed Savannah, 3-1. Miguel Celestino picked up his 9th win, striking out 4 and walking none in 6 innings. Meanwhile, Lowell outslugged Batavia, 12-8. Travis Shaw led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, a walk, and 4 RBI. The GCL Red Sox were eliminated from post-season contention by the Twins, 7-1. 2011 second round pick Williams Jerez went 3-for-4 for the Sox. In the penultimate game of the DSL season, the DSL Sox lost to the Indians, 5-2. Sully Bonnelly took the loss for the Sox, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 5 innings.
Player of the night: Travis Shaw, who led Lowell to a 12-8 victory over Batavia.
