Butler promoted to Portland
According to SoxProspects.com sources, catcher Dan Butler has been promoted to Double-A Portland. The 25-year-old backstop, who signed as an undrafted free agent in July of 2009, is coming off a week that saw him named SoxProspects and Carolina League Player of the Week. In seven games last week, Butler hit .409 with a pair of home runs, a double, and six walks, giving him an OPS of 1.279. He got off to a hot start this season, hitting .351 with 5 home runs in 16 games in April, but cooled off considerably before finding his swing last week. For the season, Butler is batting .247/.350/.417 with 11 home runs and 66 RBI in 90 games.
Butler emerged onto the prospect radar last season with Low Class- A Greenville and Salem, where he hit .327 with 6 home runs for Greenville being promoted to Salem in mid-July. He hit .292 with a home run and an .858 OPS in his first Carolina League campaign last summer, and had a cup of coffee with Triple-A Pawtucket in early July. An above-average defensive catcher, Butler is the 41st-ranked player in the SoxProspects.com rankings.
