Red Sox acquire reliever Morales from Rockies, designate Okajima
According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have acquired left-handed reliever Franklin Morales from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later. As a counter move, the team has also designated reliever Hideki Okajima for assignment.
The 25-year-old Morales first cracked the majors in 2007 with Colorado, posting a 3.43 ERA over 8 starts, while appearing in the MLB Futures Game during the All Star break. He has been a mainstay in the Rockies bullpen for most of the past three seasons, serving brief stints as a closer in 2009 and 2010 after beginning his career as a starter. This season Morales is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA 14.0 innings pitched. For his career, he is 7-11 with a 4.83 ERA in 102 major league appearances (15 starts).
