Jose Iglesias called up to Boston
With Marco Scutaro and Yamaico Navarro ailing, the Red Sox have promoted highly-touted shortstop prospect Jose Iglesias to Boston.
Signed as an international free agent in 2009, Iglesias skipped past the lower minors and made his organizational debut in 2010 with Double-A Portland. He missed some time in the middle of the season after being hit by a pitch in the wrist, but in 70 games with the two teams (including a 13-game rehab stint with Lowell), the 21-year-old combined for a .295/.339/.379 slash line. The Cuban native began the 2011 campaign with Triple-A Pawtucket, compiling a .229/.256/.229 line with the PawSox before earning the call up. Iglesias is currently ranked as the number two prospect in the Red Sox system.
