Fort Report: March 3

Today's minor league notes:

Through Thursday's game, only two minor league campers have appeared in official spring training games with the big club - LHP Tommy Hottovy and RHP Blake Maxwell.  Each tossed a scoreless inning.

Small sample size, but one of the most impressive performers early on has been LHP Andrew Miller.  The big lefty has thrown two scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, striking out three, and walking none - and has impressed Terry Francona in the process. On Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com talked to Miller, who is taking the simple mindset of throwing strikes and being aggressive, and letting the rest fall into place.

PawSox broadcaster Dan Hoard caught up with outfield prospect Bubba Bell earlier today, and it appears that there is some chance that Bell could be traded later in the spring - something the team would consider as a gesture for the 28-year-old,  Bell, known as an extremely hard worker and popular teammate, has the tools to catch on as a fourth or fifth outfielder on a major league club, but would probably be ninth or tenth on Boston's outfield depth chart this season.

LHP Felix Doubront has yet to resume throwing  after being sidelined with elbow soreness last week.  He's likely to undergo an MRI soon, and there is no timetable for his return despite that his arm is feeling better.

Tony Lee of NESN.com has a report on Lars Anderson, who is taking the opportunity to get extra at-bats now while Adrian Gonzalez continues his rehab.

According to Joe McDonald of ESPN Boston, RHP Alfredo Aceves has already piqued Francona's interest as a potential bullpen option, while fellow reliever Dennys Reyes will throw one more bullpen session, presumably this week, before seeing game action.

Here's the Red Sox minor league spring training exhibition schedule. Note that this is the schedule for the Triple-A and Double-A clubs.  The A-Ball and Rookie-Ball squads will play the same schedule, but will simply be away against the same opponent on the days that the Triple-A and Double-A clubs are home, and vice versa.
