Daniel Turpen returned to Red Sox

According to multiple sources, right-handed reliever Daniel Turpen has been returned back to the Red Sox from the New York Yankees.

Turpen, 24, was selected by the Yankees in the major league phase of the Rule 5 draft during the offseason. His short stint with the Yankees this spring was unimpressive, as he hurled 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned). Originally acquired by Boston at the trade deadline from the San Francisco Giants in 2010 for Ramon Ramirez, Turpen figures to open up the season with Double-A Portland. Turpen split 2010 between Double-A Richmond (SFG) and Double-A Portland, posting a 4.30 ERA in 49 games out of the bullpen.
