Coello designated for assignment
In order to make room on the 40-man roster for Alfredo Aceves, the Red Sox have announced that pitcher Robert Coello has been designated for assignment.
The 26-year-old righty joined the Red Sox system in 2008 after beginning his career as a catcher with Cincinnati in 2004. He started last season with Portland, but was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket after 14 appearances. At the Triple-A level, he appeared in 18 games, 9 starts, posting an ERA of 4.22, while striking out 79 batters over 64.0 innings. Coello also made 6 appearances in the majors last year, posting an ERA of 4.76.
