Boston signs reliever Dennys Reyes to minor league deal
According Jon Paul Morosi on Twitter, the Red Sox have signed veteran LHP Dennys Reyes to a minor league contract.
Reyes, who will turn 34 shortly after opening day, joins Boston after having a potential deal with the Philadelphia Phillies fall through earlier this winter. A prominent presence on the mound, standing 6'3" and weighing 250 pounds, Reyes is a journeyman left-handed specialist. In fourteen major league seasons, Reyes has compiled a 4.18 ERA and 1.545 WHIP in 669 appearances with ten different organizations. Last season as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, Reyes went 3-1 with a 3.55 ERA in 38 innings of relief.
Reyes figures to compete for a spot in the Boston bullpen and could also serve as relief insurance at Triple-A Pawtucket.
