Report: Red Sox sign 4th rounder Garin Cecchini
According to Trey Mongrue, an LSU beat writer, the Red Sox have signed 4th round selection Garin Cecchini. The deal is estimated to be worth $1.31 million according to Jim Callis of Baseball America.Cecchini, 19, was widely regarded as a first round selection before he missed the 2010 season with an ACL injury. The infielder is seen as a potential five tool caliber player who already possesses plus speed and very solid defensive play. In 2009 as a member of Barbe High School (LA), Cecchini hit .402 with 6 home runs and 43 RBI. The well over slot bonus for Cecchini was necessary to pry him away from a strong commitment to play for LSU in the fall.
