Players of the Week, August 2-August 8: Miguel Gonzalez, Miguel Celestino and Jeremy Hazelbaker

Salem, Greenville and Lowell are all represented for this week's honorees as voted on by the SoxProspects.com community. For the first time ever, there was a tie for Pitcher of the Week between Miguel Gonzalez and Miguel Celestino. Jeremy Hazelbaker continued his torrid pace by picking up Player of the Week honors after receiving Player of the Month honors for July.

Gonzalez, 26, was originally acquired by Boston in the 2008 Rule 5 Draft from the Angels and is coming off of Tommy John surgery last season. He baffled hitters in his start on August 3rd against the Frederick Keys (BAL), carrying a no-hitter through 5.1 innings. Gonzalez picked up the victory by tossing 6.2 innings, allowing an unearned run on 3 hits while striking out 9 and walking none. The right-hander is now 6-2 with a 4.10 ERA in 12 appearances (11 starts) for High-A Salem this season. Gonzalez's stellar start last week earned him Carolina League Pitcher of the Week honors.

Celestino, 20, was acquired as the player to be named later from the Seattle Mariners in the Bill Hall-Casey Kotchman trade this offseason. The right-hander has been one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise tough season for the Short-Season-A Lowell Spinners. Celestino took the mound twice last week, going 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA in 11.0 innings while allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits and 4 walks while punching out 11. Since his promotion from the Rookie Gulf Coast League, Celestino is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 5 starts for the Spinners. Celestino's efforts this past week earned him New York Penn League Pitcher of the Week honors.

Hazelbaker, 22, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 amateur draft. Fresh off a July that saw him hit .348/.408/.640 with 3 home runs, 12 RBI and 13 stolen bases, he continues to make a push for a promotion as the calender turns to August. Hitting from the left side of the plate, Hazelbaker hit .435/.517/.870 in 6 games this past week with 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 5 runs scored, 6 RBI and 5 stolen bases. The speedy right fielder leads the South Atlantic League with 52 stolen bases on the season. Overall, Hazelbaker has hit .279/.371/.484 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI in 92 games for Low-A Greenville this season.

Two players who were up for consideration for SoxProspects.com Player of the Week were able to pick up recognition for their amazing weeks as well. Anthony Rizzo of the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs earned Eastern League Player of the Week honors for his .444/.444/.926 performance that saw him smack 4 doubles, 3 home runs and 12 RBI. Josh Reddick's recent resurgence in Triple-A Pawtucket gained him International League Player of the Week honors due to his .464/.464/.964, 5 double, 3 home run, 10 RBI showing last week.
