Red Sox select Mathew Price in the eighth round

In the eighth round of the MLB Draft, the Red Sox drafted their second consecutive pitcher, opting to select Virginia Tech's Mathew Price. A right-hander, Price was drafted in 34th round by the Atlanta Braves in 2008, but did not sign.

Price completed his sophomore season in 2010, pitching to a 7-4 record with a 4.95 ERA. In 17 appearances for the Hokies this season, he fired 91.0 innings, striking out 85 batters while walking 26. Price was immediately put into the Hokies rotation, with 24 of his 30 collegiate appearances made as a starting pitcher. In his two seasons with Virginia Tech, Price had a 10-8 record with a 5.73 ERA.
