Doubront back to Pawtucket, Manuel up to Boston

The Red Sox have optioned last night's starter Felix Doubront back to Triple-A Pawtucket, and recalled right-handed reliever Robert Manuel who had been sharing closing duties with Fernando Cabrera for the PawSox. The decision was made after Daisuke Matsuzaka proclaimed himself ready to pitch on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies.

Manuel, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners back in November. He has been outstanding during his time in Pawtucket, compiling a 0.98 ERA with 31 strikeouts and 8 saves in 36.2 innings. Manuel's only prior major league experience came last year in a three game cameo with the Cincinnati Reds in which he threw 4.1 scoreless innings.
