Player and Pitcher of the Month of April: Ryan Lavarnway and Manny Rivera

The month of April saw three out of four Red Sox affiliates post records of over .500, including both Salem and Greenville. These records are thanks in large part to the SoxProspects.com Player and Pitcher of the Month, Ryan Lavarnway and Manny Rivera.

Lavarnway jumped out to a hot start to the 2010 season for Salem, collecting SoxProspects.com Player of the Week honors for the week of April 12. He posted a .355/.424/.658 line for the month of April, with 6 home runs, 5 doubles, and 23 RBI. Lavarnway's home run and RBI numbers were tops among all Red Sox minor leaguers in the opening month of the season.

Rivera made four starts for the Drive in April, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.37 ERA while also garnering SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of April 12. In addition to those numbers, what set him apart from the pack was his stellar 19:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio and his 0.79 WHIP. The 20-year-old left hander made 4 starts for Greenville in April, totaling 19.0 innings and allowing just 13 hits. After giving up 4 runs in his first start of the season, he bounced back to surrender just 1 run in his next 3 starts combined.
