Iglesias has huge game for Portland

5/22 Cup of Coffee: Jose Iglesias starred for Portland, but unfortunately for Pawtucket and Greenville, the games are nine innings long. Both teams lost in the final frame Friday night.

The PawSox jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Norfolk (BAL) scored in the bottom of the ninth to
top Pawtucket 3-2.
Aaron Bates hit an RBI triple in the first inning and scored on a Dusty Brown double, but that was all the offense Pawtucket would muster for starter Adam Mills, who had another solid outing. Mills went 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Dustin Richardson tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief before Chad Paronto allowed a walk-off single in the ninth. Tug Hullett had 2 of Pawtucket's 6 hits on the evening.

In Portland,
Casey Kelly got knocked around a bit but the Sea Dogs scored five in the bottom of the eighth to top Trenton (NYY) 11-8. Kelly walked 3 and allowed 5 runs on 5 hits in 3.0 innings, and Tommy Hottovy allowed 3 earned in 3.1 innings of relief. The Thunder gave the game away with a slew of walks, wild pitches, and errors in the eighth. Jose Iglesias was 4 for 5 with a triple, while Che-Hsuan Lin and Ray Chang each had 3 hits. Anthony Rizzo added 2 RBI, and Ryne Lawson threw 2.2 scoreless innings to get the win.

Starter
Stolmy Pimentel cruised through 5 innings, but Potomac (WAS) figured him and debutant Zach Hammes out en route to a 5-4 victory over Salem. Two of the hottest hitters in the minor leagues, Will Middlebrooks and Oscar Tejeda drove in runs in the third to stake Salem to a 2-0 lead, and after the Nationals plated 3 to chase Pimentel in the top of the sixth, Bryan Peterson notched his first RBI of the season and scored on a Jon Hee double to put Salem back up before Hammes got wild and allowed 2 runs to score in the seventh. Pete Hissey was the only player with 2 hits on the evening. Pimentel finished with 5 strikeouts in 5.1 innings, and Blake Maxwell tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief in the loss.

Much like Pawtucket, Greenville gave up 3 runs in the top of the ninth in a
5-2 loss to Augusta (SF).
Jeremy Hazelbaker was 2 for 4 with a solo home run and a stolen base, while Michael Almanzar and Dan Butler each had 2 hits for Greenville. Ryan Pressly started for the Drive and gave them 6.0 solid innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out 5. Anatanaer Batista made quick work of the Green Jackets in the seventh and eighth before allowing 3 runs to score in the ninth. Ronald Bermudez added an RBI in the loss.

Player of the Night: Jose Iglesias was 4 for 5 with a triple and an RBI. He also scored in Portland's 11-8 win over Trenton Friday night.
