Ellsbury to start rehab, McGuiness to DL

Jacoby Ellsbury is slated to begin a rehab assignment on Monday. He is recovering from cracked ribs that have kept him on the disabled list for about a month. He will play for Pawtucket on Monday (12:05 p.m.) and Portland on Tuesday (6:05 p.m.).

In other news, Greenville first baseman Chris McGuiness is headed to the DL with a strained left knee. The injury occurred on a slide home in Wednesday's game and was aggravated during a play at first on Thursday. He is expected to miss about one to three weeks.

Prior to the injury, McGuiness had been hitting well, batting .282/.408/.496 with 5 homers and a stolen base. The 2009 13th round draft pick has always been known for his patience and approach at the plate, and he has excelled in that area this year posting an IsoD of .126. Reynaldo Rodriguez, the former independent league player, has been called up from extended spring training to take his place on the Greenville roster.

Meanwhile, Salem has been playing a man short since the promotion of Anthony Rizzo to Double-A Portland. It is unknown when or with whom the opening will be filled at this time.
