Lavarnway tore the cover off the ball this week, posting a slash line of .461/.482/.885. In 26 at-bats, he smacked 3 home runs and collected 14 RBI, adding two doubles and a stolen base. Lavarnway also had back-to-back 5 RBI nights on Thursday and Friday. He is the only player in the Red Sox minor league system who has double digit numbers in RBI on the season, with 15. He also took home Player of the Week honors in the Carolina League for the long week of April 8-18.
Rivera turned in a stellar performance on the mound Thursday night against Rome (ATL). He went 5 innings and allowed just one base runner, a leadoff single in the fourth. Rivera also struck out the side in both the second and fourth innings, striking out 9 overall. Thursday's victory pushed Rivera's record to 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched.
