Royals claim Hernandez off waivers
Kansas City claimed pitcher Gaby Hernandez off waivers from the Red Sox this afternoon, thwarting Boston's attempt to sneak the young righthander through the waiver wire. Boston had only recently claimed Hernandez off waivers themselves from Seattle on February 10, but the 23-year-old was designated for assignment on Monday to make room for Casey Fien. Boston's 40-man roster is presently full. From Hernandez's perspective, he is likely to get a better opportunity to crack the big league roster this season with Kansas City than he would have with Boston.
