Pawtucket INF Gil Velazquez made the most of his 24 at-bats last week, hitting two home runs and three doubles, driving in seven runs while scoring five, and posting a .417/.481/.792 (1.273 OPS) line, earning him SoxProspects.com Player of the Week honors for August 25-31. Signed as a minor league free agent in the off season, Velazquez (28) is hitting .260/.310/.417 (.727 OPS) with 10 home runs, 17 doubles and four triples in 350 ABs (91 hits) and 46 RBI over 101 games with the Paw Sox in 2008. He was a 14th round pick by the Mets in 1998 and spent 2007 in the Twins system at both AAA Rochester and AA New Britain.
