Velazquez 3 for 4 night sparks PawSox to victory

On Wednesday, Pawtucket beat Scranton Wilkes-Barre 11-5. Edgar Martinez got the start for the PawSox and pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2 to pick up his 6th win of the season. Jon Switzer pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings striking out 2. Gil Velazquez went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI while George Kottaras went 3 for 6 with a double and a RBI. Dusty Brown went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and Jonathan Van Every had a double and 2 RBI in the win.

Portland was denied a sweep of Reading as they fell 7-2. Adam Mills pitched 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 1. TJ Large pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings striking out 2. Lars Anderson went 2 for 3 with a home run and a RBI while Aaron Bates went 2 for 4. Zach Daeges went 1 for 4 with a double and a RBI in the loss.

Lancaster had a walk-off 9-8 win over Bakersfield. Travis Beazley pitched 6 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 8. Craig Molldrem pitched 1 inning giving up 1 hit while striking out 3. Reid Engel hit a pinch hit solo home run in the bottom of the 9th inning to win the game. Mike Jones went 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI while Daniel Nava went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Aaron Reza also had a triple and 3 RBI in the victory.

Greenville had Wednesday night off.

Lowell had its 7 game winning streak snapped as they were shutout against Brooklyn 7-0. Kyle Weiland pitched 3 innings giving up 3 unearned runs on 5 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1. Dan Buller pitched 2 innings giving up no runs on 1 hit while walking 2. Ronald Bermudez went 2 for 4 and Mitch Denning went 1 for 4 as the Spinners only mustered 3 hits in the loss.

In the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox fell to the Twins 9-3. Pedro Perez pitched 4 innings giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits while striking out 2 and walking 3. Armando Zerpa took the loss as he pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 4 hits while walking 2. Derrik Gibson went 2 for 4 with a triple, 2 runs scored and a stolen base while Wilfred Pichardo went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Casey Kelly went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI in the loss.

And in the Dominican Summer League the Red Sox fell to the Royals 7-6. Javier Jimenez pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 1 and walking 2. Javier Gutierrez went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and a RBI. Eddie Lora went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and Pedro Gonzalez went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.
